John 3:19-21
19 “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.
21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”
Stepping Out of Darkness, Moving Toward Light
In our own lives, sin is not just about our outward actions; it’s rooted in the way our hearts stray from God. Even though we may appear to follow the rules on the outside, if our hearts are not aligned with God, the true light cannot shine into our lives. If we do not have God’s guidance, we will ultimately get lost and move into darkness.
God’s Light Illuminates Our Lives
Jesus tells us that rejecting the light means missing the opportunity to restore our relationship with God. Those who “do evil” avoid the light because they fear their actions will be exposed and judged. Many of us experience this struggle in life. Faced with our imperfections, we often choose to turn away rather than confront our flaws. But it is in these moments of avoiding the light that we miss the chance to reconcile with God. Moving toward the light is the beginning of humbling ourselves, accepting God’s love, and opening ourselves to His guidance.
For us as female scholars, we will face many challenges on our academic and life journeys. There will be times of confusion and doubt. But it is in these moments that we need to rely on God’s light to guide us out of the fog. Whenever we feel lost, that longing for the light within us is a sign of walking with God. Only in God’s light will our pursuits be empowered and meaningful.
