John 1:29-34
29 The next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him and exclaimed, “Look! The Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
30 He continued, “This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘A man comes after me who has surpassed me because he was before me.’”
31 John explained, “I didn’t know him before, but I came baptizing with water to reveal him to Israel.”
32 Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him.
33 I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
34 I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.”
Whenever I reflect on the day I was baptized many years ago, a warm feeling washes over me. As I was immersed in the water, it felt like a powerful declaration that the person weighed down by past sins was gone. When I emerged from the water, it was as if the Holy Spirit descended like a dove, gifting me with a new life from God and welcoming me into the body of Christ. What a beautiful moment that was!
Though there are times when we may not feel the Holy Spirit’s presence directly, that amazing new life begins and continues to flow within us. When we humbly and gently come before the Lord, the Holy Spirit actively works in our hearts, showering us with daily grace and stirring within us a longing to draw closer to Him. This kind of experience truly fills us with endless joy and satisfaction.
